Oak Framed Conservatory – Boldre, The New Forest

This bespoke oak framed conservatory was designed and built for a property in Boldre, in the heart of the New Forest. The client was looking for a traditional-style conservatory that would bring in as much natural light as possible while still complementing the character of the existing home.

With that in mind, the design focused heavily on glazing, keeping the oak frame relatively minimal. Georgian-style leaded windows were used across all elevations, helping the conservatory retain a classic look while allowing plenty of light into the space.

The structure includes two sets of engineered oak French doors, three feature glazed gables and a fully glazed roof. Together, these create a bright, open room that links naturally with the garden while remaining in keeping with the traditional architecture of the property.

We worked closely with the client during the design stage to make sure the balance between glass and oak frame felt right for the property and the surrounding setting.

The conservatory is a completely new addition to the home and was designed so that it sits comfortably alongside the existing building.

One of the more challenging aspects of the build was the glazing. The leadwork within the glass had to be designed very carefully so that the patterns aligned correctly across each window. With so much glass throughout the structure, extra care was also needed during installation, particularly when fitting the glazed roof panels. Fortunately, everything went smoothly and there were no breakages.

Ben Frost, Onsite Lead & Head Framer at Oak Craft explains:

“This bespoke oak framed conservatory was designed to maximise natural light while complementing the traditional architecture of the home. The solid oak frame and large glazed panels create a bright, functional space that integrates naturally with the existing property.”

The finished conservatory now provides the homeowners with a bright, light-filled space that feels like a natural extension of the house while offering views out to the surrounding New Forest landscape.
